Learn why the convict penal settlement from 1825 to 1855 was no place for the meek and mild and where even the toughest spirit was broken. Experience first hand stone cutting, shingle splitting, timber cutting and rope making at the home of a Pitcairn descendant. Visit 200 year old work sites and see where produce gardens once thrived.
ONE OF NORFOLK'S MOST VISITED ATTRACTIONS Fletcher's Mutiny Cyclorama - open 7 days This is Norfolk Island's most loved attraction. It is a 360 degree panoramic painting of how the world's most famous mutiny, on HMAV Bounty, created the Pitcairn and Norfolk communities. Two local artists took 16 months to paint the Cyclorama, and it is based on extensive research to ensure historical accuracy. With great art and an evocative soundtrack composed by musician Rick Robertson that brings history to life, this is a must see attraction.
NEW Baunti Day Dinner (minimum 17) Learn about Norfolk's rich traditional culture by enjoying a Bounty Day style feast. Bounty Day is held on each June 8 and commemorates the landing of 194 people from Pitcairn Island on Norfolk in 1856. The highlight of the celebrations is a lunchtime feast of Norfolk Island foods held in the compound of the convict built jail at Kingston. Discover the diverse range of island dishes with their European, Polynesian and American influences. Learn about the weaving, language, music and history that is unique to Norfolk from local Bounty descendants.
